About Jarrah Wood

The Jarrah Wood story is closely related to the history of the Australian
Aboriginal people who roamed it's forests, and to the early English
settlers of the 1800's who found the unique timber useful in their building
of their colony.
Jarrah is a beautiful and useful timber from the EUCALYPTUS MARGINATA tree,
more commonly known by its Aboriginal name, "Jarrah". This timber in
unique to Western Australia, as the only place in the world these trees
grow is in a compact belt extending southwards from Perth (Western
Australia's capital city) for about 340km (200 miles). These trees can
reach the height of 33 to 50 metres (100 to 150 feet), and a diameter of 1 to
1.7 metres (3 to 5 feet). The timber, renowned for its strength and
durability, has been used in the heavy construction of bridges, dock piles,
railway sleepers, and even as blocks to pave streets in London. As a
particularly hardy and durable timber, once cut and seasoned, it is immune
to the effects of dampness, dry rot and fungal attack, as well as being
strongly resistant to termites and other borers. Rich reddish brown in
colour for the most part, Jarrah can also be found in hues from pink to
dark brown.
Today Jarrah Wood is extensively used in the manufacture of furniture:
indoors in the form of fine dining, lounge and kitchen furniture, in
offices as furniture, desks, conference tables and chairs, and as outdoor
entertainment furniture. |
